It’s normal to get lost in your problems and the routine work-life flow but every once in a while – you stop to realize you want more in life but just can’t figure out how to get off this never-ending cycle. How do you change? Is it possible to have a successful career and still engage with family and friends? Is there such a thing as becoming a better you?
The simple answer is YES…but how?
Reinventing yourself at the start of the New Year is common but change doesn’t happen overnight – it requires a constant thought/feeling that you want a better life and you’re willing to keep trying no matter what! It always comes down to making a list – you want something that’s always in sight as a reminder of what you’re working towards. The key is to focus on the end goal and not how long it takes to get there or how many times you messed up. Just remember – any progress is better than NO progress. The fact that you’re reading this is already progress!
Declutter – your mind & house
Getting rid of old junk can feel good –coming home to a clean space is invigorating! Spend a weekend thoroughly going through boxes and junk drawers/rooms. Be realistic – holding on to size 2 pants when you know that size has been a distant memory since high school. Donate gently used clothes that you no longer fit. Also, everyday try to take a few minutes of a mental break – wake up in the morning or before bed and just sit in silence. No TV, cell phone or tablets – just you and slow breathing patterns to zone out and clear your mind.
Enjoy the good life in New Year 2020
Life can become hectic but don’t forget to enjoy it! Make time for friends or family with a weekly/monthly outing – go on a road trip, check out a concert or just plan a dinner. Whatever you do, just make sure it’s something that brings you joy.
Just do it
Create a to-do list and…DO IT! Scratch things off your list as you go no matter how big or small – it’s still an achievement. Completing that first boring task will more likely make you want to keep going!
Keep life exciting in New Year 2020
Trying something new always brings a little excitement in your life and it doesn’t have to be something like a 2-week Italy vacation but if you can – go for it! Maybe a new restaurant opened in your area or you always wanted to learn how to play the drums. Challenge yourself by getting out of your comfort zone.
Make time for people you love
This is a combination of enjoying your life by making time for those you love – your immediate family. Something as little as playing with your kids in the yard or scheduling a date night with your spouse. Don’t allow the daily routine to take over your life; making time for your children and partner will not only feel good for you but also for them.
